Where I live it's an integral part of the 'frikandel speciaal' (frikaldel being the lowest of the low tier mystery meat sausage, like a skinless hotdog, which is cooked, then frozen, then sold and then fried at a chip-shop or at home).. Speciaal is the combination of mayo, curry and onions.
