It's unnecessary and then only reason she does this is because that's how she treats men who aren't good looking enough for her.
ITS A FUCKING EXAGGERATION. Her life isn't in danger. She's not being harassed. She's acting that way to play pretty little victim and pretend some scary monster, who she was fine with just prior moments before, is chasing her. This absolves her of social guilt for rejecting someone with enough confidence and courage to ask her out but who just wasn't Chad-enough for her. She's shallow but trying to pretend it's not by projecting that the male is doing something wrong instead.
She has to overplay it and pretend it's worse than it is to feel less guilty and make the male feel like shit instead. She can be nice about it. She can treat the man like a human being and still have a friend, instead of treating them like garbage and gaining an enemy for it.
