>>21099098>/pol/ tell it to me straight, is Linux based or just a meme.let me see...
- trapped using Windows at work
- buy a Raspberry pie, install raspbian, hide it in home TV entertainment center
- learn to remote into it via SSH, wife just thinks I'm fucking around on my tablet
- learn how to remote admin, read man entries, setup basic lamp server
- install piehole at home
- setup random linux shitbox at work, install OpenKM document server
- migrate it to Amazon Web Services virtualized server, can access it anywhere
- start screwing around with Python, create customer doc template system (flat files, ugh)
- meanwhile go straight Linux (slackware) on everything
- setup samba server
- finally start on customer DB and admin system (python + django + postgres)
- 15kloc later, notice Weebly bullshit website has shit the bed
- start writing external business website in Django: secure customer login then downloads from our internal server
- learn CSS, javascript. Website now looks awesome. Still working on suite of automated tools for customers
- my competitors are still stuck using windows and 3rd party solutions that don't do shit. They have to hire extra employees at $80k+ a pop.
This is off and on over ten years, starting from someone trapped using windows on everything with no programming experience. Now I'm creating a bespoke customer portal that nobody in my industry is even close to. It would have been so much tougher to do this with Windows, *soooo* many roadblocks and hurdles everywhere. Meanwhile I just sudo apt install and move forward.
Linux is fucking based.
