I have raised beds, and get Tomatoes, Carrots, Zucchini, Squash, Mint, Basel, Blackberries, and Strawberries. What I need I trade my neighbors for. If you're poor every community in America has neighborhood gardens as well.

I trade my excess strawberries for Eggs and BBQ with my neighbors.
The farmers market is also in town 9 months a year, on Sat and Sunday. For things a bit further away. (Honey, Meat, Tree Fruit)
