Don't get a rescue, although even those eventually think you are part of their pack and will bark at noises, puff themselves up and make very effective deep growling noises. Most rescues will either end up fucking biting someone, or will run away like little pussies when someone actually gets in. Do NOT get a golden retriever or a lab, they fucking welcome strangers, like:

Any reasonably smart, sceptical doggo over 60lbs will generate enough chaos to disorientate/distract an intruder. And of course warn you with all the fucking noise they'll make.
