>>5081014Futuristic items should appropriately look as such, but anything that's "new" construction is going to look pretty archaic in comparison even if it incorporates futuristic technology due to coming out of a pre-industrial or early industrial society in most cases, at least in my opinion. These devices need to be robust enough to get dragged through the mud and deserts by people who don't really understand how they work and are going to need to be repairable by the village blacksmith if they're going to see any consistent use. This is the design philosophy behind the Brown Bess, the Sten Gun, Mosin-Nagant, M1911, and the vaunted AK-47, which all look like varying compositions of wood and/or metal.
When you see something that looks like a bionicle weapon and not like a pulp-fiction approximation thereof, it's a sign that it actually is pre-fall technology and not an imitation and that makes it really important and special, the real thing as opposed to a pale imitation.
Least, that's my two cents on the matter.
