The supposed death camps were all within Soviet territory and were never inspected by the US, Britain or France. The concentration camps liberated by western forces all turned out to be work camps not death camps.
In all likelihood the Soviet camps were work camps too. A lot of people died because of typhus and the brutality of the conditions particularly after the war turned against the Germans and its fair to say it was a genocide it just wasn't anywhere close to 6 million.
