Consuming all the food himself would starve out the rest of his kind, or they'd leave and let him be consumed by the next up in the food chain. You may be mistaking greed for hierarchy as a pack of alphas is dysfunctional and volatile. The word you are looking for is selfishness or narcissism. We are all narcissistic with varying degrees of restraint and everything we do is selfish as a part of survival.
