But to answer your question: Rozen maiden is a series I personally cannot compare to any other, it tells a different tale of how a young boy caught in the motions of dropping out of school and taking on the life of a neet, with parent never around and at the care of his older sister, who continuously goes through lengths to keep at least of a strand of an emotional tie as he continues down the rabbit hole of reclusiveness. without telling the story, these dolls come into his life the day he finds a key and is left with a decision, throughout the journey he learns a bit more about his self and the problems that have been haunting him leading him to this destructive lifestyle, also gains a level of introspection of how this life has effected others around him. each and every doll has had a level of influence on him through out the story as he witnesses the Alice game. that is just the main character, each doll has a bit of a history of their own, but thats for you to find out when you read the manga, or the series. -but i do advise reading the manga.-
