I was fucking fucked big time last year. And the 10 years before it. Unemployed and as depressed as a person can be without becoming an hero, though I came close.
8 months ago I started taking a 1-3 mile walk almost every morning. Going on the walk was the foundation of my recovery. Every morning I made a habit of being In bed by 7:30PM(Asleep by 8:00PM ideally) up by 4:00AM. The exact schedule isn't important, but having a schedule (even through weekends) is. By 4:30AM I was on the road before the hot ass sun comes up. During these walks I started getting bored and began entertaining myself with podcasts and eventually audio books. You'd be surprised how many books you can go through listening to them 15-45 minutes a day while walking. There are three books that completely changed the way I perceive the world.
