>>13212901My family settled & has lived in Tennessee since 1600s.
Thru the ‘80s & ‘90s my dear, departed grandmother would ask me to go pick up her friend, Miss Gracie, & bring her to the house so they could make sourdough bread.
Their process took 3 days, don’t ask me why-I’m just a roughneck pipe fitter, not a trained baker.
They would prepare the dough from scratch on day 1, let the dough work it’s magic (in the fridge?) on day 2 then proceed to bake on day 3.
For the rest of week when sourdough loaves were complete my Nana would make beef stew and/or chicken noodle soup w/whole chicken in the pot.
The family would come over for lunch & dinner, slicing & lightly toasting the sourdough w/real dairy butter from dairy farm down the road. The bread perfectly complimented the stews & soups perfectly. Literally the best meals I’ve ever had.
I miss my Nana & her homemade breads & Blackberry pies w/the pastry latticework on top.
This is how humans are supposed to live. Taking time to make food that is natural, wholesome & healthful. Not wage-slaving 70hrs a week & choking down garbage food that is more plastic & less real food.
