Same reason that CGI in movies is no longer as arresting as it used to be. Replicating realism, at a certain point, is just masturbation over the effort required for the art to be produced. It provides a thrill, but after a while, that novelty fades and you’re left with something that doesn’t really spark the imagination. It lacks emotional impact, outside of very specific circumstances (a story like Hachiko the Dog or religious significance).
