If you have very little competition. You could get away with having shitty morals and an abysmal moral framework. Cannibalism, rape, random infanticide, unsanctioned murder and paedophilia. If you are the only tribe on a paradise island and you have zero competitors you can get away with nearly anything as long as you manage to reproduce. Because you manage to fulfil the primal laws of nature.
But if you are in Europe around the 400’s and the Goths, Vandals, Romans and Huns are breathing down your back and you mess up in some way. Well you will end up like the dinosaurs and your “morals” become irrelevant since you cease existing as an ethnic group in the present.
If you mix different ethnic groups, some whom might have a different biologically set morality, intelligence and social hierarchy. You can end up with a much weaker ethnic group overall. That is excluding the various problems that come with mixed societies and the mini in-groups that they produce. Which in the long run can end up being exterminated by more successful neighbours who follow a more efficient moral framework. As such the survival of an ethnic group has a lot to do with their religion and the castes that produce such a moral framework.
Morals and religions exist as a function of competition and sophistication. The result of incremental advances in efficiency.
