the story seems to be that they were having a lot of difficulty with their financial infrastructure since banks really don't like the porn industry, so they made a public statement about all banning fringe and/or extreme content on the platform. the idea was that by framing it that way they wouldn't have to actually make any any changes but all the suits could be convinced that they've rebranded away from porn in general.
unfortunately their plan worked too well and journalists took the opportunity to report it as the site banning porn altogether which the general public believed. now if they were to announce that they weren't actually planning on making any changes it would both tank their already strenuous relationship with the executives and make them out as backpedaling idiots to the general public
