And yes it's as you said, Jews expected the Messiah to be a David-like figure who would free them oppression and tyranny, there was nothing about the Messiah being an incarnation of God in anyway. All the early Messianic Christians (Jews) died believing that Jesus was their Messiah, but not the Son of God. It was only later that this whole tadbit about being the Son of God was added. As a Muslim I commend the Jews for their strong and pure Abrahamic monotheism, even if I don't like the fact that they continue to deny that Jesus is the Messiah.
