Escapism and entertainment is generally a bad thing.
If you indulge in entertainment you will miss out in achieving things in life that will give you a lasting and permanent sense of joy. The worst form of entertainment are those that are passive. The evil in anime is the fact that it can really be such a great form of passive entertainment that prevents you from doing creative or productive things you may enjoy and give you an actual sense of accomplishment.
In choosing one's entertainment it is always best to choose something that is at least either social or creative. In this sense, anime and other forms of passive entertainment can only be good if they are watched with other people with the intent to have a good time.
