>>11515919i think if they don't already then it's likely the will in the near future. japanese businesses are historically quite risk averse and stuff like anime has only really started to pick up international mainstream appeal relatively recently.
right now they basically outsource translating and distributing all their media to whatever foreign companies want to do it because it's easy money to let them pay the japanese companies to take care of it while it isn't going to effect domestic sales at all. as those foreign distributors get more and more successful over longrt periods it just becomes more attractive for the original japanese companies to take away their licenses, hire on their own high quality translators, and make their services accessible internationally.
obviously something like nintendo is much more international at this point but we saw a similar thing happen with them where westerners just kept buying their stuff so they decided to keep making everything more accessible to westerners.
