Those towelheads were made up.
Back in the day those religions were created, there were many small cults in competition with one another. None of them had anymore legitimacy than the other. They were just preaching shit from God. "God said this, God said that."
The problem is any old asshole can say, "Hey God told me this. He revealed a message to me!"
These small cults needed some way to make themselves more legitimate than their competitors. So they made up fake towelheads who were sent by God or acting on God's behalf.
"Our cult has legitimacy because the words of it come from someone directly sent by God!"
That's why there's a fake towelhead made up in Christianity as the leader of the religion, and a fake towelhead made up in Islam as the leader.
