They lack the genuine horror/fear/understanding that their version of "this sucks" is nothing in comparison to human suffering throughout history
If you look at most of the dystopias that Hollywood puts out it's like everyone's well-fed and pretty but unhappy because the police will arrest people occassionally
Actual dystopia is the police state, poverty but also people are starving and homeless while the state berates you for being "worthless" while individuals completely lose agency under the state and their basic needs aren't being provided
But that's too close to modern america so they won't actually depict it that often
