*ahem*
In the Chinese Cultural Revolution (1966-1976) the vast hoardes of young well meaning useful idiots were used by Mao Zedong to consolidate power. The youth were constantly given propaganda in all forms of media that identified “their enemies”.
These were the landlords, counter revolutionaries, bad influencers and rightists.
Mao radicalized the youth and they reported any and all of their “enemies” as they could, even among their own parents. This was especially hard hitting in the universities, where the professors had to be extremely careful of what they said, they couldn’t express personal or even factual arguments if it was against Mao’s book in case their students reported them to the Red Guard. They would be branded a public enemy and paraded through the streets where hoards of brainwashed deprived would blame them for all of their problems like starvation and poverty. They would be tortured and killed.
Eventually no one would speak against the Left and Mao has a monolithic hold on power afterward.
If this situation sounds familiar then it should scare you. We may be experiencing the early stages of the Western Cultural Revolution already.
