my father was a business professor, he was also a genius who had a PhD in micro-bio and masters in chemistry. he never taught me specifics aside from saying; save, invest, dont become indebted, avoid the interest trap. when it came to businesses he said many of his students try to chase money as the goal, he would say this is a bad way to go into business and instead a person should cultivate their passion and develop those innate talents because typically those students would become the most successful as it was easier for them to master and their passion/drive for that industry would give them an edge. the money would come later.
if you dont like doing what you do or get involved in something that is not suitable you will just hate it and it becomes near impossible to progress.
i also think he never really taught me specifics about business perhaps because he saw it as 'survival of the fittest', if you are not capable of learning, understanding or doing it yourself then you are unlikely to succeed. you either have the innate ability & willpower or it is not meant for you. this applies to many things aside from business but it is the same.
its kind of strange to me thinking about as an adult that he never pushed me toward anything, never wanted me to follow him in academia, science, business, medicine etc. he never said explicitly but basically the feeling was - do as you please but do it to the best of your ability.
