Newfoundland's completely separate culture and identity from Canada, very rural. For the most part it was an isolated clusterfuck of Welsh, Irish, Scotts, Anglos and Norwegians living on one island for 400 years with little contact with anybody else, and it's so underdeveloped that the houses in this documentary from 1951 look the exact same as they do now with the same families living in them
