>>17252413>>17252563>>17252413New market entrants are offering 4k and VR video and Youtube has to shift some of its capacity as Google is putting pressure on them to reach profitability. The problem there is architectural; as you scale revenue, you add more advertisers, and each of them have specific rules for reaching their target audiences. As you add more advertisers, you accrue more rules, and those rules are bound to conflict. This is not a new problem; as media publishing concentrated down to 4 companies (ben bagdikian's media monopoly illustrates this) the problem manifested itself as political correctness (which has no key person, key literature, or key group behind its institution, ergo, it's a superstition born of conflicting advertiser rules). Youtubes platform is unruly. The conflicting rules push the most novel content off of the platform reducing its utility. This is why publishers ebb and flow; maximizing profits pushes novel engaging content off-platform.
The good news is the data won't get lost. You can store a lifetime's worth of movies on a few 10TB hard drives for about a grand today, and every movie, TV show, song, book and audiobook ever produced can be stored on something the size of a regular PC with a dozen hard drives or a few dozen flash drives, and those flash drives can last a lifetime. You can also reduce the cost by an order of magnitude on that by using a tape library. Flash Storage technology has the potential to store exabytes of data in something the size of a can of soda assuming the technology continues to progress.
Everyone should be ignoring mass media, focusing on their own personal education and having conversations with others while avoiding platforms that censor their conversations, engaging in civic participation, and donating to orgs like the institute for justice as an investment in their future and above all, praying to god. The belief in omnipotence is self-reinforcing bullshit and a waste of time.
