Nod is what happens if no one opposed Stalin in the 40s and he was allowed to devastate and "liberate" all of Europe in a 1950s WW2, Allies vs Soviets. The in-game story is mysterious, true, but that a cryptonationalist could destroy the USSR from the inside and intentionally balkanize it such that the nations would reform as nations qua nationality is feasible. It's why Stalin had so many officers' purges. This is a game world set post USSR where the areas are being explicitly mentioned BY national name not simply called "red/yellow/blue zone", in fact, that's what GDI starts designating zones as while Nod still calls places by their names: Texas and Australia are explicitly mentioned in later games, GDI calls them Red or Yellow zones. GDI exists to protect pozzed blue zones like Manhattan and Nod defends those disproportionately impacted by Tiberium, still calling them by the name they named their land. Serbians are Serbian in Nod, not simply yellow zoners. The storyline pisses communists off because it poses the alternate history that shows that they are belligerent useful idiots whose movements only goal is worldwide domination, not peace.
Furthermore, on your point about
>ethno-whatever, the only useful Nod agents are white and Serbian. All Nod generals are seen to have dominion only over their nation, i.e. Hassan in Egypt, the inner circle has their places, etc. You clearly haven't played the series because Africa is not Nod's power base but the first place it conquers. Why does Nod conquer Africa? I don't know, ask the Wehrmacht why there was an African campaign: Resources. See Rommel. He uses the oppression narrative because we are clearly being oppressed by the system of secular global influence and usury. Jews hate the series because it rewrites their history. What isn't there to love about the Brotherhood of Nod? It's as good as a LARP as a swastika.
