I mean, really good writing though to have Taichi do the H.A.M. but then show her Arata's message. Because him simply not showing her the message would be a really cowardly and dick move, which would make the audience hate him.
So Arata gets to score points, but so does Taichi.

Arata has been a HUGE bitch
but Taichi is helping her, he's there for her, he wants to see her happy, but he also was a dick early in life, pulls some dick moves, and has a gf but even still puts himself in a situation that would ensure he starves that relationship, hurting that girl he is with and really not taking his responsibilities as boyfriend seriously.
