When Tay threw her piss and vomit on Frank, she got a lot of good favor from the audience. When she started standing up against him, that was entertaining and people liked it. Should she not be rewarded for that? Wouldn't it be kinda shitty if she so happened to do bad at a challenge and get kicked shortly after?
They could stop caring about the dynamics of the cast and do everything 100% based on challenges but than don't complain all the interesting people get kicked off first and you have to endure weeks with boring people.
They have to balance the challenges and how compelling each individual fish is.
