People over the years become more and more selective on what they read so eventually reading just a few chapters and discarding the book if you don't like it is something that is bound to happen. Ideally you should be able to know if the book is worth it in the very first chapters.

It must be fun to know how to program, but I've never put the consistent effort over a long period of time that is required to learn it. How did you do it?
