Interestingly you see a lot of researchers that are against killing animals for the meat industry but rationalize the killing of several hundreds of other animals for research. Why would one end justify the means in one instance but not the other? I think both ends justify killing animals, but the way we do it matters. It isn't about cruelty because killing doesn't imply cruelty.

Usually animals killed in more humane ways also had a better standard of living. I'm not saying it was a good life, probably far from it, but maybe the best life it could have given the circumstances.
