They're not using computers as sigils, or as magic, or as demons, or whatever else. Computers ARE sigils/magic, there is no separation between them. The laws of the universe haven't changed, people in the past noticed that certain patterns, methods, etc created effects, but they didn't have the tools or energy generation to exploit those effects on a massive scale like we do today.
We just changed the label on magic. 1000 years ago it was called "wizard cures bad humors with magical alchemical concoction", today its called "doctor cures infection with antibiotic pill".
