People look at the Soviet tanks and think "lol those are shit" without realising that the Soviets had fantastic tank designs that they just decided weren't worth the production costs of switching over manufacturing for.
The USSR has virtually always had superior land weapon platforms to the West, it just lacked the economy to deploy them en masse.
