If you value someone as a friend, or at least don't want to be totally alone, you need to give these people at least a few minutes of your time every day, even if it is just a quick text to say "hi bro hope all's well, wel'll have to catch up soon" even if the catch-up doesn't happen for months and months, at least you stay on each other's radar.
As for dating apps, I know they can be ridiculous but I still think they are the best place to meet people nowadays. I don't have apps like that on my phone, only use my PC, so I'm limited to POF, OKCupid and a couple of others. It actually worked out really well because I can type messages, which seemed to really impress most women as my messages to them were way longer than the average message with way more content and thought in them. Again: Make an effort. If you match with a woman, write her a long, thoughtful message, show her who you really are. Someone out there wants a man like you, but they need to know that you are that man.
