The plebs were made into perfect contentment. They lived safe, meaningless lives. The middle class and lower class dissolved into each other, as skilled or intellectual labor was delegated to artificial intelligences. The education of the plebs was reduced to maintenance. Their sole purpose would be to repair and maintain the machines that did everything from agriculture to administration, all with an incomprehensible, unmatchable proficiency. Worker's unions disappeared completely, as no company needed nor was willing to risk salaried workers. Instead, the plebs lived in a constant hunt for jobs. Announcements guided them towards short, yet brutally demanding tasks. They would then use their pay to feed themselves for a while, and be entertained for months or years before finding another job.
