I just have to remember to equip the heavy shield during seiges
up until leaving to form my own warband I was forced to walk on my feet
this caused me to learn a thing or 2 about tactics
So basically allies and enemies would line up to fire arrows etc at eachother and once running out would then everyone charge
During my skirmishes I tell the novices to charge and have my cav veterans follow behind me
When my infantry clash with enemy infantry I tell my cav to charge
