So it's not a contradiction in terms. Especially given the etymology of the words where gnostic means to have knowledge and agnostic means to be without it. It might seem contradictory if you're using the stricter definition of atheism where the atheist beleives that there is no god rather than simply not beleiving in god. But in this case, the axis allows for both the 'strong' and 'weak' types of atheism to be split apart and labeled seperately.
