Like how that production company made a cheapo Fantastic 4 film with Roger Corman just to retain the rights - essentially they had to 'use it' or lose the copyright. Or maybe you mean changing what exists? Either way it sounds like a good idea - so many properties seem to end up languishing unproductively being held by big studios or corporations.
