The current mods on /a/ are either intentionally destroying /a/ to appeal to the lowest common denominator or are literal newfags that know nothing about /a/ (I'd even be willing to bet they're normalfags that aren't even into anime/manga)
/a/ was always one of the best self moderated boards but the recent shipment of newfags created a feedback loop of positive reinforcement and now /a/'s original culture is gone.
