I kind of hate what they've done with Minecraft's crafting system. Specifically with how they let you view all the recipes for everything you can make with just a click.
Point is that it's lame how it ruins that "figure it out for yourself" aspect of survival. That's supposed to be a key element in almost any survival sort of game. There's plenty fun involved in putting random shit together on a crafting screen and seeing if anything comes out, because of how it feels rewarding when it does bear bruit. That alongside when you figure "doing this should make x" without anything telling you it does, and it turns out to be so. All that just makes you feel more like you're in the game and are trying to survive.
When there's a guidebook that readily tells you everything you need to know, it's a just bit meh.
Of course, it doesn't change anything for a returning player or someone who'll look up online what all the recipes are anyway, but it really was a part of the experience back in the day for someone just getting into the game.
I personally remember being a happy little autist when I figured out how to craft a sword and running over to tell my parents about it. I'd only have a slim of that fun if I was just shown how to do it. Bet a lot of people would say the same.
Sure, there's a lot of stuff in the game that has weird recipes that would be tedious for you to try to figure out by yourself, but that still doesn't mean you have to tell everything. Maybe just the more basic things could be left out, or they could've simply made another use for exploration by placing guidebooks around places that you could use to add recipes into your crafting screen. And I thought of that in a second, so something good could be implemented.
But oh well. They abandoned the actual survival part of Minecraft a long time ago and the game needs to be accessible to children as much as possible (they did bring this new recipe system from the mobile version), so I guess it doesn't matter.
