>>10651176These massive scale experimental devices probably won't yield massive utility value, but they could.
The entire history of science is full of experiments which had no obvious purpose but ended up working out phenomena that were extremely useful -- virtually all of technology is the result of this -- look at electricity for the best example.
The point of these facilities is to study things which have been out of reach, since we've explored the more mundane types of particles pretty thoroughly. I don't know what CERN has done except help confirm the Standard Model and the Higgs, but I do know LIGO detected gravity waves which is incredible. This is just the effort required of doing cutting-edge scientific research on exotic particles.
Is going to space a waste, should we halt our renewed investment in space travel in the US? Humanity should just stay on Earth forever? What if one of these facilities discovered something that enabled us to leave 200 years earlier?
I don't really know why I'm engaging with you, but right wingers who are anti-science really make me cringe. Science affirms the truths we can stand on, like race realism.
I don't even know what you're suspicious of, are you gaslighting to make /pol/ look stupid?
If the Nazis won they would be doing the exact same kind of thing, you can bet your ass on it. They would be doing it even better and at a bigger scale. But whose pockets would it be for then? I don't know if the EU actually siphons money off of these projects into a black budget or whatever. If you have seen proof of that kind of thing please post it. (LIGO is a US thing, anyway) I hope this post helps some lurker anon so that it wasn't wasted.
