I really get that state of mind where you can't forget a mistake and it haunts you its a gross feeling but I would say just chill, relax, and make it up to him further down the line without directly saying its for that reason.
I remember that I never was hugged when I was young so from around 10yo - 18yo the feeling of hugging was so alien and unfomfortable to me. I have gotten used to them now and enjoy them.
