To women, the highest status males are those who provide resources that benefit their existence. That can be through money, but also by being intelligent in a practical way. To be "alpha" in modern environments you need to be physically and intellectually above average to provide utility to women of above average attractiveness, and given widespread weight problems, an above average woman who is in high demand would herself not be in the same status position of we actually has healthy populations.
