But in all seriousness, this was either one of two things:
1) If the eyewitness reports of "aliens" are false, then this was likely a terrorist attack that has been covered up by the government.

2) If the eyewitness reports of "aliens" are genuine, this was a beta-test for Project Bluebeam and the Fake'N'Gay™ Alien Invasion that the government has been trying to promote all last year via CIA (((whistleblowers))) and the congressional establishment of a "UAP Threat Office" to make it seem like "muh aliens" are "a threat to national security".
