>>21053419It's a bit of both. A lot of people are simply keeping up with the Joneses and leasing their homes and luxury cars while taking on debt for other expenses. Even more people are simply too poor and stupid to learn how to save money and live independently (constantly dining out because they can't cook/have the diets of 8 year olds, living with their parents at an inordinately late age, etc.).
The bottom line is everyone is financially illiterate. They don't want to sacrifice immediate dopamine hits for long-term satisfaction.
