Morality is a tool to regulate social interactions within the ingroup; sharing a common religion (among other factors) is what defines the ingroup. Morality towards outgroupers is meaningless concept, as there are no realistic guarantees of reciprocity; when dealing with outgroupers one acts diplomatically not morally, and the social norms and expectations regarding diplomacy differ from those regarding morality. Note that diplomacy in the broadest possible meaning includes a state of open conflict.
