Don't fall for the kjv or nkjv meme, its new testament is based off the textus receptus which is inferior to better, earlier sources available now. The kjv has the biases of scribes who inserted their shit into scripture, for example, 1 John 5: 7 in the kjv is:
"For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one."
This is an important verse, yet most of this verse doesn't actually exist in the original Greek. In the earlier Greek sources it just says "for there are three that testify."
Also stay away from gender neutral translations, which I believe includes the modern NIV translations.
