My great grandfather was a semi-famous convicted war criminal and was shot by the Soviets after the war when he surrendered in Hungary.
He was sentenced because he authorized the murder of over 90,000 Romani and Jews in Yugoslavia by SS units nominally under his command. He also carried out the partisan order and the commissar order so soldiers under his command killed a lot of communists or partisans.
My grandparents and parents hate him because they were brainwashed after the war. It's sad.
