It makes sense that people who have very extreme feelings of worry or anxiety would want somebody who's very cool and calm, and that people who feel very insecure would look for somebody whom they can feel they can be protected by.
They're not really exact opposites. Instead, they're things that in some way or another are meant to compensate for each other in some way.
