Consider the example of Evangelion.

* good news
* gospel
The very name of the anime is the greek word for "gospel," that is, spreading the "good news" of the "message of god." And while not everybody can be expected to know greek, any native english speaker should see "evangelion" and recognize the common etymology with "evangelism" which is witnessing and preaching the gospel.
And if that wasn't enough...when the ANGELS show up in the first episode, angels of course being internmediaries between heaven and earth, people really should start to notice. And yet the show constantly dumps this stuff on people, Lilith, Genesis, a "cruel angel's" thesis, , crucifixation imagery and blood, the lance of longinus, "Absolute Terror" fields being what keeps out love and truth, every angel all having a significant name like Adam, Azrael, Sachiel, etc...
The entire show is constantly barraging the viewer with this, and yet people think it's a mecha anime and act surprised by the ascension ending.
If somebody bashes you over the head with something, don't pretend like it's a secret just because you don't understand what they're telling you.
