I have known my Chinese housemate for over 4 months. Initially, she barely talked to me because I was a stranger to her. She told me she doesn’t like to be friendly towards strangers. But over time, we started to have short conversations, and eventually, she and I became friends. We would exchange food sometimes or take each other's food. There are 5 other people living in the house, but I am the only one she made friends with because I took care of the house, and our Chinese landlord trusts me with his house whenever he's on vacation. I always felt a deep admiration towards her because of how positive she is about her future and how hard she works for it. That is why I decided to engage in conversations with her.
She appears very excited whenever I meet her, likes to cook dinner for me and told me she wants to take me out to a facny restaurant to thank me for helping her. I feel very comfortable being with her and we have similar values. I want to ask her on a date, tell her I like her in person but unsure if she’s just being friendly with me because I help her or whether she likes me. She is 32 and I’m 30. We both have been living in a western country for the past 5 years.
