I’d start thinking weird things if this wasn’t Gandalf, who always tells the truth, whole truth, and nothing but the truth when it comes to his delays. You’d start interpreting him saying he is “already spent” or crying out Gash! once he realizes who he’s dealing in pretty odd ways.
