I only took finasteride for about a month or two and had pretty bad ED for around 8 months afterwards. Originally I thought that it was caused by masturbation, but nowadays I jerk off like twice a day and am back to having rock hard erections, so I'm convinced that it was caused by the finasteride. I also suspect that the side effects of finasteride are underreported because people are too embarrassed to tell their doctors.
I only take topical minoxidil now, which is fine as long as you don't overdo it. I used to use more than the recommended dose and got pretty bad moonface and swollen feet / fingers due to high water retention for a few weeks and had to taper off of it for a while. Overdoing can also cause your heartrate to spike which is pretty bad too since it can mess with your heart, so just stick to the recommended dose and you should be fine. It'll probably cause you to lose a shitton of hair before any grows back though, so be prepared for your hair to look way worse for a while if you start taking topical minoxidil.
In my case, my hair only ever looks bad when wet, so I am thankful that I can easily pass as having a full head of hair. When I'm older I plan on getting a hair transplant if it starts to really show.
